Celebrating St. Andrew’s Day 2024 in B.C.

Golf is Scotland’s game and on St. Andrew’s Day, ScotCan BC hosted our first event of the 2024/25 year. Held on a cold afternoon at the Richmond Country Club, our golf event brought together ScotCan BC board members, supporters, representatives from First Tee and Golf BC, and even an inductee to the Scottish Masters Athletic International Hall of Fame to celebrate Scotland’s patron saint and kick off an exciting new chapter for our association.

The event was more than just a celebration, it was also a moment of transition and connection. We introduced our new board for the year and passed the baton of leadership from our outgoing president, Tricia Barker, to our incoming president, Jason Roberts. Tricia’s contributions to ScotCanBC have been immeasurable and we’re thrilled that she will continue to serve as our government liaison, ensuring that our ties with the Scottish Government in Canada remain strong.

Speaking of connections, this event couldn’t have happened without the generous funding provided by the Scottish Government in Canada, who gave a donation to First Tee, a non-profit organization that equips youth with inner strength, self-confidence, and resilience through golf programmes. Their support underscores the shared commitment to fostering community and celebrating Scottish culture far from home.

This event came into being through conversations, a reminder of the power of connection and dialogue. The St. Andrew’s Day event was more than an afternoon of celebration; it was a reflection of what ScotCanBC stands for: community, collaboration, and a dedication to our shared Scottish heritage.
